This is a 20 week employment program for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander job seekers.
The program offers an introduction to working in the Northern Territory (NT) Government for those who are wanting to begin a career in the public sector.
You will complete a Certificate II in Workplace Skills, a nationally recognised qualification, as well as complete work experience in a NT Government agency.
You will receive
- Traineeship fortnightly salary between $770 - $1,560 (approx.) before tax for the duration of the 20 week program.
- Hands on work experience in a government department.
- Nationally recognised qualification completed through Charles Darwin University.
- Mentoring and support.
- Personal and professional development.
- Suite of additional training to support you to kick-off your career in government.
- Access to NT Government employment conditions including leave provisions and superannuation contributions.
After successful completion, you have opportunities for further traineeship in a specialised field or employment with the NT Government.
Pending eligibility, participants are proudly supported by Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (DITT), User Choice Funding.

- Darwin program is from 22 July 2024 - 6 December 2024
- Alice Springs program is from 29 July 2024 – 13 December 2024
Success stories
Who can apply
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people that:
- are living in the region where the program is held
- have basic computer skills
- have good written and verbal communication skills
- have a licence and transport or access public transport
- must have the ability to obtain a Working with Children (Ochre) card and complete a criminal history check
- must not hold the same or higher level qualification than what is being completed in the traineeship.
