Following a placement in the Vacation Employment Program, Tithira joined the Graduate Program to gain further experience working for the public sector.
During vacation employment Tithira gained practical knowledge while studying and exposure to the range of jobs in government. Most notably, at the Department of Treasury and Finance where Tithira trained as a Case Officer reviewing applications for housing grants.
As a graduate employee Tithira experienced a variety of opportunities and skills development including:
- exposure to multiple work areas to explore various career options
- mentoring from senior colleagues and working with people with diverse skills and experience
- participating in departmental working groups
- networking with a wide range of professionals.
Tithira’s advice to future vacation or graduate program participants:
“Be yourself and be authentic. Don’t compare yourself to anyone – just do the best you can and seize the opportunities that come along way.”
Tithira said “placements are a jackpot for university students studying to gain valuable experience.”
