Following graduating in Engineering, Jayan was already working in a role at the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL) before joining the Graduate Development Program to advance his career through the experience gained working across different business areas and regions.

Jayan experienced a variety of opportunities and skills development as a graduate including:

  • the opportunity to experience and complete projects including the Infrastructure Corridor Management, maintenance of public transport assets, bridge and culvert inspections, and the construction of roads, driveways and flood ways
  • learning lessons from project delivery
  • broadening his knowledge of government
  • training in Work Zone Traffic Management, Road Safety, Presenting, Economic Policy and Project Management including budget and finance management.

Jayan’s advice to future Graduate Program participants:

“The program is a great entry level pathway to start your career in the NT Government.

“Graduates will develop high level work skills by undertaking analysis and project work. The program is designed in such a way that it’ll develop you into a better Project Manager.”
